You found a portal that led to the Badlands, a place where the surface is deadly but rich with minerals! Find the portal back (It looks like a tree) and cheat death. Someone decided to help people escape these lands and he put keys which when picked up teleport you closer to the portal. Be careful, teleporting you enough can make you see things, or nothing ( This will happen in-game). Good luck, Have Fun.
